The Youth Well Lab at the University of Sydney has been featured as a national case study by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) for excellence in consumer and community involvement in health and medical research alongside the updated Statement on Consumer and Community Involvement in Health and Medical Research.

Our team was recognised for co-designing research and interventions with young people aged 10–24 years to address some of the most pressing health issues facing this generation. From digital health tools to food environment studies, we partner with young people every step of the way, from setting research priorities to interpreting findings and shaping policy.

Our Health Advisory Panel for Youth at the University of Sydney (HAPYUS) plays a central role in this work. The panel has helped:

  • Co-author peer-reviewed articles

  • Develop national guidelines on youth participation

  • Lead youth advocacy globally

  • Co-design digital health interventions such as the Health4Me study (funded by the MRFF)

We’re now building on this success with The Health Hive, a consumer-led initiative creating Australia’s first digital platform to support adolescents as collaborators across all phases of health research (funded by the MRFF).

“Hopefully, our work has inspired many young people to believe in our power to make a change.” – Bowen, Youth Advisor (2021–2022)

We recognise and pay respect to the Elders and communities - past, present, and emerging - of the lands that we conduct our research. For thousands of years they have shared and exchanged knowledges across innumerable generations for the benefit of all.
